Overview
Kaala is a 2018 Indian Tamil-language action drama film directed and co-written by Pa. Ranjith. The film was produced by Dhanush and Subaskaran Allirajah under the banners of Wunderbar Films and Lyca Productions. The cast includes Rajinikanth, Nana Patekar, Samuthirakani, Easwari Rao, and Huma Qureshi. The narrative explores the lives of Tamils from the Nellai and Tirunelveli regions who reside in large numbers in Mumbai. The central character, Karikaalan, also known as Kaala, serves as a representative for the residents of Dharavi, a large slum in the city. The plot follows Kaala as he consistently fights to keep these people safe from the influence of a land mafia don named Hari Dhadha. When a powerful political leader attempts to seize the land where the community lives, Kaala rises to the occasion. He leads his people on a journey to resist the politician’s plans, acting as a protector for the slum residents against the clutches of mighty political figures. The film, which is also marketed as Kaala Karikalan, was released in June 2018.
