Overview

Hyouka is a Japanese anime television series based on the Classic Literature Club novel series written by Honobu Yonezawa. The show, which consists of 22 episodes, was produced by Kyoto Animation and directed by Yasuhiro Takemoto. The narrative follows Houtarou Oreki, a minimalistic high school freshman who prefers to lead a gray life while conserving his energy. At the request of his elder sister, he joins the school's Classic Literature Club. There, he encounters three other students: Chitanda Eru, Fukube Satoshi, and Ibara Mayaka. While Chitanda is typically calm, she becomes highly curious when faced with a mystery. Fukube possesses a fantastic memory and identifies as a database, while Ibara is known for being strict with herself and others. Together, the group begins to investigate various mysteries, including a case that occurred 45 years ago. Clues regarding this long-standing mystery are buried within an old collection of works created by the former members of the club. The series title is derived from the first volume of the original source material.
