Hogan's Heroes is an American television sitcom that aired on the CBS network. The series premiered on September 17, 1965, and concluded on July 4, 1971, spanning a total of 168 episodes over six seasons. The program is set within a German prisoner of war camp during the events of World War II. Bob Crane stars as Colonel Robert E. Hogan, who leads an international group of Allied prisoners. This crew operates a Special Operations unit from within the confines of the camp. The camp is overseen by Colonel Wilhelm Klink, played by Werner Klemperer, while John Banner portrays the sergeant-of-the-guard, Hans Schultz. In one instance, Hogan is required to change his tactics when attempts to make Klink appear competent before a Nazi Inspector General lead to the commandant receiving a promotion and a transfer to Berlin. The series was popular throughout its broadcast history. The creators of the show included Bernard Fein.
