Hilda Hurricane is a Brazilian miniseries produced by TV Globo that originally aired from May 27 to July 23, 1998. The production consists of 32 episodes and stars Ana Paula Arósio, Rodrigo Santoro, Danton Mello, and Thiago Lacerda. Set in 1950s Brazil, the story follows a young model and beauty queen from a respected middle-class family who shocks society by breaking off her engagement on her wedding day. Instead of proceeding with the ceremony, she flees to a brothel at the Maravilhoso Hotel in the Belo Horizonte red-light district. She soon becomes the city's most famous prostitute, known as Hilda Hurricane. Her life becomes complicated when she falls in love with Malthus, a young novice who is considered a saint. Malthus is kept under the strict, severe doctrine of Father Nelson, a conservative priest who is intolerant of even minor sins. The situation intensifies when Roberto, a communist reporter and friend of Malthus, attempts to interview Hilda to disclose her story to the public.
