Grimm is an American urban fantasy police procedural drama and horror television series created by Stephen Carpenter, Jim Kouf, and David Greenwalt. Produced by Universal Television for NBC, the series premiered in the United States on October 28, 2011. The story follows Nick Burkhardt, a Portland homicide detective who discovers he is descended from an elite line of creature hunters known as Grimms. As a Grimm, he is tasked with protecting mankind from creatures known as Wesen. Nick learns of his heritage from his Aunt Marie, who provides him with a trailer containing essential information and equipment for his new responsibilities. She also entrusts him with a small antique key that he must protect with his life. Throughout the first season, Nick finds his duties as a detective increasingly at odds with his role as a Grimm. He navigates crimes involving various types of Wesen, ranging from the bear-like Jägerbars to the rat-like Reinigen. In these efforts, he receives assistance from Monroe, a Blutbad he met during a case, and Rosalee Calvert, a Fuchsbau. The series explores the balance between Nick's professional life and his hidden duties as he protects humanity from the supernatural threats he encounters.
