Future Police Urashiman is a Japanese science fiction franchise that began as a manga series written by Hirohisa Soda, illustrated by Noboru Akashi, and published by Akita Shoten. The title was subsequently adapted into an anime television series produced by Tatsunoko Productions, which originally aired on Fuji TV from January 9 to December 24, 1983. The television program spans the action and adventure, animation, comedy, and sci-fi and fantasy genres. Internationally, the series was released in Germany and Sweden under the title Rock'n Cop, in France as Super Durand, and in Italy as Ryo, un ragazzo contro un impero. Later, Saban Entertainment planned to release the series in the United States as Rockin' Cops, though the release did not ultimately take place. Additionally, a film version was in development, but that project was also abandoned.
