Overview

False Memory is a Chinese animated television series that premiered in 2026, adapted from a 2020 indie short film of the same name. The series centers on a young protagonist who struggles to cope with the loss of his friend Shi Yan. In an effort to escape his grief, he creates an imaginary version of Shi Yan called Bug Man, who exists within his memories. This manifestation draws the attention of the Memory Management Bureau, an organization that monitors and regulates memories. Two memory collectors, Fang Tang and Bai Zhong, are tasked with retrieving Bug Man. The series explores themes of loss, memory, and coping mechanisms through its animated storytelling format. It features a cast including Hou Da, Rantu, Ling Mo, and Xu Yuan, and was made available on streaming platforms beginning in August 2026. The show retains creative elements from its original short film while expanding the narrative into a full episodic format.
