The title El nido refers to several distinct cinematic projects. The 2026 Spanish psychological thriller, also known as The Nest, is directed by Hugo Stuven. Stuven co-wrote the screenplay with Santiago Lallana and César de Nicolás. The cast features Michelle Jenner, Luisa Gavasa, Pablo Derqui, and Dylan Radley. This film explores the fine line regarding women in control of their own lives, specifically examining relationship dynamics where partners disagree on the decision to have children. A separate 1980 production, also titled El nido, is set in a town near Salamanca. It depicts an eccentric 60-year-old widower who becomes captivated by a 13-year-old girl named Gregoria, who is a budding naturalist. Additionally, a 2021 film directed by Mattia Temponi stars Luciano Cáceres and Blu Yoshimi. This story follows an eighteen-year-old girl and a middle-aged volunteer worker who are trapped together in a shelter during a viral outbreak that transforms the population outside into savage, irrational beings.
