Overview

Dororo is a 2019 anime television series produced by Tezuka Productions and MAPPA based on the manga of the same name by Osamu Tezuka. This production serves as the second anime adaptation of the source material following the 1969 series. The story is set during the Warring States period and follows a young orphan thief named Dororo who encounters a strange, sightless boy named Hyakkimaru. Hyakkimaru wields fearsome prosthetics in place of limbs that his father traded to a group of twelve demons in exchange for power. Having survived his ordeal thanks to a medicine man, Hyakkimaru now roams the war-ravaged land as a cursed ronin determined to regain his humanity. Together, the pair travels the countryside to fight demons and reclaim the missing parts of Hyakkimaru’s body. The series is available through various streaming platforms and on Blu-ray. While the adaptation departs from the original manga in several ways, it maintains the fundamental premise of the characters struggling to survive in an unforgiving, demon-plagued world.
