Season overview

The 2005 revival of Doctor Who serves as a direct plot continuation of the original 1963-1989 series and the 1996 television film. The executive producers for this incarnation of the series were Russell T Davies and Julie Gardner. The first series features Christopher Eccleston as the ninth incarnation of the Doctor, marking his only series in the role. The Doctor is a 900-year-old alien Time Lord with two hearts who belongs to a civilization that mastered time travel. He is accompanied by Rose Tyler, played by Billie Piper, who is his primary companion. Throughout the series, the Doctor grows increasingly attached to Rose after plucking her from obscurity on Earth. The Doctor also travels briefly with Adam Mitchell, an unruly boy-genius portrayed by Bruno Langley, and Captain Jack Harkness, a 51st-century con man and former Time Agent played by John Barrowman. The episodes within this series are connected by a loose story arc centered on the recurring phrase Bad Wolf. The series is categorized as action, adventure, drama, and science fiction and fantasy.
