Die Ironie des Lebens is a feature film directed by Markus Goller that was released on September 5, 2024 in Germany. The story follows the life of Edgar, a successful comedian in his late sixties who is recognized as the most successful elderly comedian in the country. Every evening on stage, he performs a routine where he makes fun of topics concerning older people, including failed relationships, ungrateful children, a declining libido, rapidly deteriorating health, general uselessness, and imminent death. However, once his show concludes, Edgar is left as a truly lonely man who attempts to fill his empty evenings with alcohol and groupies. His offstage life is characterized by loneliness and sadness. The narrative shifts when, after twenty-five years, Edgar meets his ex-wife Eva again. Eva is terminally ill with cancer, and against all odds, the two begin to fall in love again, leading Eva to decide to accompany Edgar.
