In the second episode of the eighth season of Dexter, titled Every Silver Lining, the Miami Metro Police Department continues its ongoing investigation into the serial killer known as The Brain Surgeon. As the department works to identify and apprehend the perpetrator, Dr. Vogel seeks out Dexter Morgan to request his assistance with the case. Dexter, who works as a blood spatter pattern analyst for the Miami Metro Police, maintains a secret life as a serial killer who targets criminals that have evaded the justice system.

Parallel to the investigation into The Brain Surgeon, Debra Morgan continues to pursue her work as a private investigator. During the course of her current case, she encounters a situation that requires her to take matters into her own hands. The series, which originally aired on Showtime between 2006 and 2013, follows Dexter Morgan as he balances his professional responsibilities with his illicit activities. The narrative remains focused on the intersection of these two worlds as the hunt for the killer intensifies and the personal lives of the characters become increasingly complicated by their respective professional and private obligations.
