In 1990, Coto and Brian Helgeland sold a script titled The Ticking Man for one million dollars, though the film was never made. Coto wrote and directed an episode of Tales from the Crypt, and later wrote an episode for and produced the 1995 Showtime revival of The Outer Limits. Following the cancellation of The Outer Limits, he created and wrote the Showtime series Odyssey 5, which starred Peter Weller. Coto passed away on July 9, 2023, at the age of 62.
