Overview

Deca-Dence is a Japanese animated television series that depicts a post-apocalyptic world where humanity resides in a massive mobile fortress for protection. The story unfolds many years after unknown life forms called Gadoll pushed humanity to near extinction. Survivors live within the 3000-meter high Deca-dence structure, which serves as their last refuge from the Gadoll threat. The population is divided into two distinct groups: Gears, who serve as warriors fighting the Gadoll, and Tankers, who lack the abilities required for combat. The narrative centers on Natsume, a Tanker girl who harbors dreams of becoming a Gear. Her path crosses with Kaburagi, a surly armor repairman responsible for maintaining the equipment used in the ongoing conflict. Their unexpected encounter sets the stage for exploring themes of social division and personal aspiration within this confined society. The series examines the rigid class structure that separates those who fight from those who cannot, while following the developing relationship between these two characters from different sides of this societal divide.
