Thirty years prior to the events of the narrative, a strange phenomenon known as a spacequake devastated the center of Eurasia, resulting in the deaths of at least one hundred fifty million people. Since that time, smaller spacequakes have continued to plague the world on an irregular basis. The story follows Shidou Itsuka, an ordinary high school boy who discovers a mysterious girl at the ground zero of a recent spacequake. Through his sister Kotori, Shidou learns that this girl is one of the Spirits, which are mystical creatures and supernatural female entities responsible for the spacequakes that threaten mankind. Shidou is recruited to help seal the spirits and end their threat to human civilization.
