Overview

Dark Winds is an American psychological thriller television series created by Graham Roland. The series premiered on AMC and AMC+ on June 12. Based on the Leaphorn and Chee novel series by Tony Hillerman, the show features a cast led by Zahn McClarnon and Kiowa Gordon. The narrative follows two Navajo police officers, Leaphorn and Chee, as they work in the 1970s Southwest. The plot centers on their investigation into a grisly double murder case. As the officers search for clues, they are forced to challenge their own spiritual beliefs and come to terms with the trauma of their pasts. The production features a mostly Native American cast, which also includes Jessica Matten and Deanna Allison. The series is distinct from other mystery thrillers and is not to be confused with the German science-fiction series titled Dark. Dark Winds focuses on the specific cultural and professional challenges faced by its protagonists within their jurisdiction during the 1970s.
