The third season of Dancing with the Stars premiered on September 12, 2006, and concluded on November 15, 2006. The competition expanded its participant pool from ten couples the previous season to eleven couples. A major change was introduced to the scoring system for this season. The fan vote now accounted for only 25 percent of the total score, and scoring was translated directly from percentages rather than ordinals. The judges' scores were totaled, and each performer received points based on their percentage of the total points distributed among all performers. The fan vote was calculated in the same manner, based on the star's share of the total fan vote. Additionally, the season's results shows featured the Slim Fast Dance Challenge, which included Tysonia Sichinga and Christian Perry demonstrating how exercise through dancing could assist with weight loss.
