"Buso Renkin" is a television series that premiered in 2006. The story follows the life of a high school student who attends school with his peers. The student is involved in an incident one night, saving a mysterious girl from a monster, which results in his death. He later awakens in his school dorm, unsure of what happened. However, it is revealed that the incident was not a dream, as he is subsequently attacked by a giant serpentine monster along with his sister. A girl he had previously saved explains that the monster is a homunculus, and she had revived him by placing a Kakugane medallion in his chest, which serves as a replacement heart. The Kakugane medallion is a key element in the story, as it is used to replace the student's heart.
