Overview
Brave is a 2012 American animated fantasy adventure film produced by Pixar Animation Studios for Walt Disney Pictures. The film was directed by Mark Andrews, Brenda Chapman, and Steve Purcell, with a screenplay written by Andrews, Chapman, Purcell, and Irene Mecchi. The voice cast includes Kelly Macdonald, Billy Connolly, Emma Thompson, and Julie Walters. Set in the mystical Scottish Highlands, the story follows Princess Merida, the daughter of King Fergus and Queen Elinor. As an accomplished archer who is determined to make her own path in life, Merida defies a sacred custom of the land. This act inadvertently brings turmoil to the kingdom. In an attempt to set things right, she seeks out an eccentric old Wise Woman and is granted an ill-fated wish. Merida must then rely on her bravery and archery skills to undo the chaos. The kingdom’s three lords, Lord MacGuffin, Lord Macintosh, and Lord Dingwall, also figure into her quest and serve as comic relief as she attempts to change her fate.
