In the fourth episode of the fourth season of Bones, titled The Finger in the Nest, the investigation begins when Parker, the son of FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth, discovers a corpse's finger inside a bird's nest. This discovery prompts the team to launch an investigation in an effort to locate the rest of the body.

After the team successfully finds the corpse, further analysis reveals that the cause of death was a dog. This crucial finding leads the team to investigate an illegal dog fighting ring. Following this lead, they embark on a search to find both the killer dog and its owner.

The investigative team relies on the collaboration between the FBI and the staff at the Jeffersonian, where Dr. Temperance Brennan and her colleagues at the Jeffersonian Medico-Legal Lab assist special agents in solving cases involving human remains that are often difficult to identify through standard methods.
