Overview

Blazing Saddles is a 1974 western comedy film that parodies the conventions of traditional cowboy movies. The story takes place in a town where most residents share the same surname, which becomes a source of comedic confusion. When the community's location threatens to block railroad expansion, the villainous Hedley Lamarr devises a scheme to drive out the inhabitants by making their lives difficult. Following the death of their sheriff, the townspeople request a replacement from the Governor. Lamarr manipulates this situation by persuading the Governor to appoint an African American lawman as the town's new sheriff, making him the first of his race to hold such a position in the western frontier. This appointment creates further complications as the new sheriff must navigate both the hostile environment created by Lamarr's henchmen and the prejudiced attitudes of the townspeople while trying to maintain order and protect the community from those who would see it destroyed.
