Overview

Angels in America is a 2003 television production set in 1985 during the Reagan administration. The narrative unfolds in Manhattan as the AIDS crisis impacts the lives of several interconnected individuals. Prior Walter reveals to Louis, his partner of four years, that he is ill. Following this disclosure, Louis leaves the relationship, though he subsequently experiences guilt as Prior suffers from disease and loneliness. Meanwhile, Joe Pitt, a Mormon Republican attorney, receives pressure from right-wing fixer Roy Cohn to accept a position at the Justice Department. Both Pitt and Cohn are closeted, with Pitt struggling due to religious turmoil and shame, while Cohn maintains his secrecy to protect his power and access. Pitt is married to Harper, who uses Valium and seeks to escape their sexless marriage. As the story progresses, an angel appears to Prior with an invitation. The series examines the intersection of personal crisis, political ambition, and health challenges within the social landscape of the mid-1980s.
