Absentia is an American thriller drama television series that premiered on September 25, 2017. Created by Matthew Cirulnick and Gaia Violo, the show was directed by Oded Ruskin and released on Amazon Prime Video in the United States and AXN internationally. The series stars Stana Katic as FBI Special Agent Emily Byrne, alongside cast members Patrick Heusinger, Neil Jackson, and Christopher Colquhoun. The narrative follows an FBI agent who reappears six years after being declared dead in absentia. Upon her return to Boston, she must attempt to reclaim her family, identity, and innocence while finding herself the prime suspect in a string of murders. The series ran from 2017 to 2020. Eight years after its initial debut and four years after its cancellation, the program gained renewed attention as a global streaming hit on Netflix. The plot also involves the discovery of an unidentified body that washes up on a pier, contributing to the central mystery surrounding the protagonist's return.
