Episode recap
The second season of the series begins with a scene set one year after the events of the previous season. The emotional aftermath of Jack's loss is evident, having led to a strained relationship with his daughter Kim. Kim is now employed as an au pair for a troubled family. Jack has moved on from his work at CTU and is no longer involved in that line of work.
However, his past is called back into service when he receives a direct summons from President Palmer. The President informs Jack that a critical situation has arisen in Los Angeles. A nuclear device has been planted in the city, and the terrorists responsible plan to detonate it within a 24-hour time frame.
The President's office has deemed Jack's expertise essential in handling this crisis. As a result, Jack is drawn back into the world of counter-terrorism, a field he had previously distanced himself from. The gravity of the situation is underscored by the limited time available to prevent a catastrophic event.
