Steven Frederic Seagal, born on April 10, 1952, in Lansing, Michigan, is an American action film star, producer, writer, martial artist, guitarist, and reserve deputy sheriff. He is a seventh-dan black belt in Aikido and began his adult life as an Aikido instructor in Japan, becoming the first foreigner to operate an Aikido dojo in the country. He later relocated to the Los Angeles, California area, making his film debut in 1988 in Above the Law. By 1991, he had starred in three successful films and achieved greater fame in Under Siege as Navy SEALs counter-terrorist expert Casey Ryback. His subsequent projects included directing and starring in On Deadly Ground and starring in Under Siege 2: Dark Territory.
