Shinichi Sekizawa was a Japanese screenwriter known for his work in the film industry, particularly his contributions to several classic Godzilla films and multiple films directed by Ishirō Honda. Born in Kyoto, Japan, on June 2, 1921, his career began when he joined an association of manga cartoonists that included the anime pioneer Osamu Tezuka. His career was later interrupted when he was reluctantly drafted to fight in the South Pacific during the Second World War.

Following the war, Sekizawa reignited his film career in 1946 by joining Beehive Productions as an assistant director. He quickly demonstrated a talent for screenwriting by completing the screenplay for the film Profile of the City in a record four days. Throughout his career, he became especially recognized for his immense contributions to the original Godzilla series, providing screenplays and stories for ten of the original fifteen Showa films.

Known primarily for his writing, Sekizawa accumulated seventy-eight known credits over the course of his career. His life and career came to an end with his death on November 19, 1992, at the age of seventy-one.
