Koch is known for his roles in the Academy Award-winning film The Lives of Others, Steven Spielberg's Bridge of Spies, and as Otto Düring in the fifth season of the Showtime series Homeland. Prior to his screen work, he performed in municipal theatres in Ulm and Darmstadt, and starting in 1990, he began acting in Berlin theatres, where he appeared in productions including Schiller's The Robbers, Goethe's Iphigenia in Tauris, and Nick Whitby's Dirty Dishes.
