Ruben Östlund is a Swedish filmmaker born on April 13, 1974, in Styrsö, Gothenburg, Sweden. He is best known for directing satirical black comedy films including Force Majeure, released in 2014, The Square, released in 2017, and Triangle of Sadness, released in 2022. After finishing high school, he worked in winter seasons at various ski resorts in the Alps. While in the Alps, he began making skiing videos for his friends, which helped him secure a job at a local production company. He subsequently studied at the film school in Gothenburg. Östlund is the recipient of various accolades, including two Palmes d'Or, four European Film Awards, and three Academy Award nominations.
