Biography
Andrey Petrovich Zvyagintsev is a Russian film director and screenwriter born on February 6, 1964, in Novosibirsk. He graduated from theater school in 1984 and studied at the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts until 1990. After working as an actor from 1992 to 2000, he directed The Return, which won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival. His subsequent films include The Banishment, which competed at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival, and Elena, which won the Special Jury Prize at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival. Leviathan earned an Academy Award nomination and an Asia Pacific Screen Award. His film Loveless received the Jury Prize at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival and an Academy Award nomination.
