Richard Paul was an American actor born in Los Angeles, California on June 6, 1940. He died on December 25, 1998 at the age of 58. Paul possessed a tenor voice, trained with Lee Sweetland, and was capable of imitating a wide range of American and foreign dialects. Academically, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in public affairs from Claremont Men's College and a Master of Arts in psychology from California State University, Los Angeles. He was near the completion of a Ph.D. in clinical psychology at the University of Arizona in Tucson before leaving his career as a therapist to pursue performing full-time. During the filming of an episode of The Love Boat in 1977, Slim Pickens nicknamed him Pige Paul after local pigeons anointed a new suit jacket.
