Biography
Richard Tiffany Gere is an American actor and producer born on August 31, 1949, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The son of Doris Anna Tiffany and Homer George Gere, he is the second of five children. Raised in Syracuse, New York, he began his artistic life as a musician before pursuing a career in acting. Gere is a practitioner of Tibetan Buddhism, having converted to the faith in 1978. Beyond his professional work in film, he is recognized for his humanitarian efforts and activism. In 1991, People magazine named him one of the 50 Most Beautiful People in the world and recognized him as their Sexiest Man Alive. He has 129 known acting credits throughout his career.
