Michael Kenneth Mann is an American film director, screenwriter, author, and producer born on February 5, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois. Best known for his stylized crime dramas, he has earned two Primetime Emmy Awards and nominations for four Academy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, and a BAFTA Award. His acclaimed film works include Thief, Manhunter, The Last of the Mohicans, Heat, The Insider, Ali, Collateral, Public Enemies, and Ferrari. In television, he served as executive producer on the popular series Miami Vice, which ran from 1984 to 1990, and later adapted the series into a 2006 feature film.
