Mads Dittmann Mikkelsen is a Danish actor born on November 22, 1965, in the Østerbro district of Copenhagen, Denmark. He is the son of Bente Christiansen and Henning Dittmann Mikkelsen and was raised in the Nørrebro district alongside his older brother, actor Lars Mikkelsen. Mikkelsen is a former dancer who trained in his youth before pursuing a career in acting. He is recognized for his nuanced performances in both film and television. Throughout his career, he has established himself as a prominent figure in the Danish film industry and achieved significant international acclaim for his work in various global productions. He currently holds 85 known acting credits.

Mikkelsen began his acting career in the mid-1990s, achieving his national breakthrough in Denmark with the 1996 film Pusher. He gained further recognition in his home country for his roles as Tonny in the first two films of the Pusher trilogy, Detective Sergeant Allan Fischer in the television series Rejseholdet, Niels in Open Hearts, Svend in The Green Butchers, Ivan in Adam's Apples, and Jacob Petersen in After the Wedding. He also appeared in the 2000 film Blinkende lygter. His professional training includes education at the Aarhus Teaterskole.
His transition to international prominence was marked by his portrayal of the antagonist Le Chiffre in the 2006 James Bond film Casino Royale.
