Her father, Fei Jianhua, works as a porter and her mother is a housewife. She attended Huzhou No. 12 Middle School before moving to Beijing to study at a performing‑arts school. At eighteen, with limited acting experience, she was cast as the female protagonist in Stephen Chow’s 2016 film The Mermaid, a movie that became the highest‑grossing film in China and brought her national recognition.
