Biography

John Loder was a British-American actor born on 3 January 1898. He was born William John Muir Lowe in London. His father, General W. H. M. Lowe, was a British officer involved in the surrender of Patrick Pearse, the leader of the Irish 1916 Rising in Dublin. Loder was educated at Eton and the Royal Military College. He followed his father into the army, commissioned into the 15th Hussars as a second lieutenant on 17 March 1915. Loder served in the Gallipoli Campaign and was imprisoned by the Germans. After being released, he stayed in Germany to run a pickle factory.
