Joe Grant was an American artist and writer born in New York City, New York on May 15, 1908, and he died on May 6, 2005. He worked for The Walt Disney Company as a character designer and story artist, beginning in 1933 on the Mickey Mouse short Mickey's Gala Premiere. He was recognized as a Disney legend and is known for his work on films including Legenda o Mulan, Lady and the Tramp, and Dumbo. He created the Queen in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, co-wrote Dumbo, and led development on Pinocchio and Fantasia. During World War II, he worked on war cartoons such as Der Fuehrer's Face. He left the Disney studio in 1949 to run ceramics and greeting card businesses, returning in 1989 to work on Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and The Lion King.
