Jimi Hendrix was an American guitarist, singer, and songwriter. Born Johnny Allen Hendrix on November 27, 1942, in Seattle, Washington, USA, he began playing guitar at age 15. Hendrix enlisted in the US Army in 1961 but was discharged the following year. He moved to Clarksville, then Nashville, Tennessee, and began playing gigs on the Chitlin' Circuit. Hendrix is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential guitarists of all time. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992 as a part of his band, the Jimi Hendrix Experience. Hendrix died on September 18, 1970, at the age of 27.
