He grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, alongside brothers Jerry Zucker and David Zucker, with whom he formed the filmmaking team known as Zucker, Abrahams and Zucker, or ZAZ. Abrahams was recognized for the spoof and parody movies that he co-wrote and produced with the team, including Airplane!, for which he received a BAFTA Award nomination for Best Screenplay, and The Naked Gun series. Later in his career, he produced movies independently such as Big Business, and further developed his work in parody with Hot Shots! and its 1993 sequel.
