Biography

James Barton was an American vaudevillian and character actor. Born on November 1, 1890, he began performing in 1898. Barton worked with African American performers and became one of the first jazz dancers in America. He made his Broadway debut in The Passing Show of 1919, a role originally intended for Ed Wynn. Barton frequently stood out in productions, earning praise from a Daily News critic, who noted "Whenever " in a review.
