Biography
Ingmar Bergman was a Swedish filmmaker born on July 14, 1918, in Uppsala, Uppsala län, Sweden. He directed more than 60 films and documentaries for cinematic release and television screenings, most of which he also wrote. Many of his films were set in Sweden, and some were filmed on the island of Fårö, starting from 1961. Bergman also had a career as a theatre director, including periods as Leading Director of the Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm and the Residenztheat. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential filmmakers of all time, known for his profoundly personal and introspective films that explore the human psyche and soul. Bergman passed away on July 30, 2007.
