Gary A. Trousdale was born on June 8, 1960, in La Crescenta, California. He is an American film director, animator, and screenwriter known for directing animated films. Initially planning to become an architect, he instead studied animation at CalArts for three years. In 1982, he was hired to design storyboards and perform other animation work, and later designed restaurant menus and t-shirts. In 1985, Walt Disney Feature Animation hired him as an effects animator on The Black Cauldron. He frequently directs films alongside Kirk Wise. Among the films associated with his career as a director are Beauty and the Beast, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and Atlantis: The Lost Empire.
