Following a brief period working in Rome at the film school Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, he made his directorial debut with the episode titled Un posto in paradiso, which was part of the omnibus comedy film Gli eroi di ieri, hoje, domani. Throughout his career, he also wrote several scripts for Western films, including work on A Fistful of Dollars and For a Few Dollars More.
