Eiji Okada was a Japanese film actor born on June 13, 1920, in Choshi, Chiba, Japan. Before beginning his acting career, he served in the Japanese army during World War II, worked as a miner, and was a traveling salesman. Okada was married to Aiko Wasa, and together they ran a theatre company in Japan. Internationally, his best-remembered roles include the character known as Lui in Alain Resnais's 1959 film Hiroshima mon amour and the entomologist Niki Junpei in Hiroshi Teshigahara's 1964 film Woman in the Dunes, which was an adaptation of a novel by Kobo Abe. Okada died of heart failure on September 14, 1995, at the age of 75 in Japan.
