He began his acting career in 2004 when he accompanied a friend to an audition for the film Gie. Donny started learning martial arts at a young age, encouraged by his father, a Cimande pencak silat coach. He studied karate while in elementary school and turned to kung fu in junior high school. Donny gained recognition for his role in the film Fiksi, which earned him a nomination for Best Actor at the Indonesian Film Festival. He has appeared in 74 known credits and is also known as Doni Alamsyah Donny Alamsyah Benjamin.
