Catherine Hiegel is a French actress, comedian, and director born on December 10, 1946, in Montreuil, Seine, which is now Seine-Saint-Denis, France. She is the daughter of radio host, music critic, radio producer, and artistic director Pierre Hiegel, and the niece of Pierre Bellemare. At the age of ten, she played Cosette in a radio adaptation of Les Misérables alongside her father, who played Jean Valjean, and she also sang with Andre Claveau in 1956 on Viens danser avec papa. Following her father's advice, she left school to pursue comedy, taking lessons with Raymond Girard and Jacques Charon. She began her stage career at the Theatre des Bouffes-Parisiens in Cactus Flower, appearing alongside Jean Poiret and Sophie Desmarets.
