Amanda Blake was an American actress born Beverly Louise Neill on February 20, 1929, in Buffalo, New York. She was the only child of Jesse and Louise Neill, and her father worked as a banker. Before pursuing her career in acting, she worked as a telephone operator. Blake became best known for her television role as the red-haired saloon proprietress Miss Kitty Russell on the Western series Gunsmoke. Outside of her acting career, she and her fourth husband, Frank Gilbert, operated one of the first successful programs dedicated to breeding cheetahs in captivity. Blake passed away on August 16, 1989, at the age of 60.
