He is the sixth generation to hold the stage name Kataoka Ainosuke. Born to parents who operated a manufacturing business without any ties to the world of Kabuki, he began his career at the age of five after passing an audition for child actors held by Shochiku Geino. This led to acting lessons, stage experience, a television appearance as a child role in a drama for NHK's Galaxy TV Novel program, and early appearances on the Kabuki stage using his birth name. His talent was later noticed by Kataoka Jinzaemon XIII in 1983, and he also received an apprenticeship invitation from Kataoka Hidet.
