The Glory of God – Bible study  #3 
Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your goodness, Your mercy, and Your lovingkindness. 
Whatever we go through, You never leave us. You are always with us. Holy Spirit, help us 
tonight as we look at this great subject – the glory of God. In Jesus’ name, Amen. 
The gospel is really the story of the glory. From Adam, the first man, right through to the 
last Adam, Jesus, promised in Genesis 3:15, the glory has been there. As the old preachers 
used to say, the gospel was set up on the throne right at the very beginning. That is the good 
news! 
Think of Abel and Cain: Abel’s sacrifice was accepted because the fire of God fell upon it. 
Where the glory is, there is fire, there is power, and there is blood. 
 
The New Covenant – Jesus, the Promised Seed 
Now we look to the New Covenant, where Jesus, the Son of Man, the promised seed, 
appeared. John the Baptist pointed to Him: “Behold, the Lamb of God, which taketh away the 
sin of the world” (John 1:29). John, James, Peter, and the others left their nets to follow Him 
because they saw the glory. 
And even now, in the midst of all the church activity and religion, there is always a remnant 
of God’s people who understand the glory. 
We talk of justification, sanctification, and glorification. That’s the journey of the believer. 
Great men of God like Lloyd Jones reminded us of life in the Spirit. His writings still speak: 
Joy Unspeakable, Living Water. They remind us what it means to live in glory. 
 
David and the Ark – A Heart After God 
David understood glory. In 1 Chronicles 16, when the ark was found, David sang:​
“O give thanks unto the Lord, call upon His name, make known His deeds among the people. 
Sing unto Him, sing psalms unto Him, talk of all His wondrous works” (vv. 8–9). 
That’s what happens when glory comes – we don’t talk about ourselves, we talk about Jesus. 
We give thanks, we call on His name, we make known His deeds. 
David said: “Glory ye in His holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the Lord. Seek 
the Lord and His strength, seek His face continually” (vv. 10–11). Not once a week, but 
continually. 
Smith Wigglesworth once said, “I don’t go more than twenty minutes without praying.” 
That’s life in the glory – a life of prayer, fellowship, and dependence on the Spirit. 
 
The New Covenant Glory – Christ in Us 
Paul said in 2 Corinthians 3 that if the Old Covenant was glorious, how much more glorious 
is the New Covenant of the Spirit. Moses had to veil his face because of the fading glory. But 
in Christ, the veil is removed, and “we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of 
the Lord, are changed into the same image, from glory to glory” (2 Cor. 3:18). 
That is what changes us – not religion, not rules, but beholding His glory. 
 
 
 
 
Jesus and the Open Heaven 
In Luke 3, when Jesus was baptised, it says, “the heavens were opened” (v. 21). The Spirit 
descended on Him like a dove, and the Father’s voice came from heaven: “Thou art my 
beloved Son, in thee I am well pleased” (v. 22). 
This was a sign of what was to come. At the cross, when Jesus cried “It is finished”, the 
temple veil tore, the earth shook, graves opened. Heaven was opened for us. 
And then in Luke 4:14, after His testing in the wilderness, Jesus returned “in the power of 
the Spirit”. The whole region was filled with His fame. People marvelled: “Never man spake 
like this man”. He read Isaiah 61 and declared, “This day is this scripture fulfilled in your 
ears” (Luke 4:21). That was glory revealed. 
But in Nazareth, they could not accept Him. They said, “Is not this Joseph’s son?” That’s 
what religion does – it veils people from seeing who He truly is. Yet John testifies: “We 
beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth” 
(John 1:14). 
 
Christ in Us – The Hope of Glory 
And here is the heart of it: Christ in us is the hope of glory (Col. 1:27). Eternal life is this: 
“That they might know thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent” (John 
17:3). 
Jesus prayed: “Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee” 
(John 17:1). He finished the work. Now He calls us into union, communion, and ultimately 
dominion in Him. 
 
Closing Exhortation 
We are in the end times, as Jesus said: “As it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be in the 
days of the Son of Man” (Matt. 24:37). Like Noah built the ark, we are called to build 
ourselves up in the most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost (Jude 20). 
We overcome by “the blood of the Lamb, and the word of our testimony” (Rev. 12:11). 
So tonight, the call is this: forget about yourself, think about Him, and lift up Jesus. He has 
opened the way. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life (John 14:6). 
“What more can Jesus do? He’s laid the foundation, opened wide the door. So we can 
enter in.” 
Lord, we enter into Your glory, tonight and every day. Amen.
