MY STUDENT FILM, 1995 — A mini documentary about a night in the life of two hot dog vendors in Boise, Idaho.
PRODUCTION NOTE:
This project was a class assignment. We were instructed to produce a documentary segment about any topic of our choosing, so I contacted a local hot dog food cart company and arranged to film two of its vendors during a busy night on the streets of downtown Boise, Idaho.
My fellow classmate and close friend Troy Shreve operated a second camera, so that we could capture reverse shots of dialogue and action. I operated camera A and conducted the interviews. With a running time of nearly 17 minutes, my mini doc was the longest and most in depth video produced for my class. This video won Best Documentary at the Boise State University Film Festival and aired on the university’s TV channel.
TRIVIA:
At the time, I was more experienced shooting documentaries than narratives due to the fact that my scholarship was sponsored by the broadcasting company that owned the local ABC affiliate, where I also worked as a photographer for Todays Homes and in-studio camera operator for the local news.
