The series follows the lives of teenager Zoey Brooks and her brother, Dustin, as they attend Pacific Coast Academy. This institution is a private boarding school located in Southern California that began enrolling girls for the first time in its history during the events of the series. The program starred Jamie Lynn Spears, Paul Butcher, Christopher Massey, and Erin Sanders. Production was initially filmed at Pepperdine University in Malibu, California, before moving to stages in Valencia, California, for the third season. As the most expensive production for a Nickelodeon series at the time, the show received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Children's Program in 2005. The series originally ran as a TEENick show and focused on the experiences of Zoey and her friends while navigating life at the boarding school.
